Here's Why EA's 'Star Wars Battlefront II' Debacle Has Spooked Investors

For months now, Electronic Arts has insisted it has been listening intently to fan complaints about Star Wars Battlefront II and how the game implements microtransactions.

Jorgensen concluded by assuring that despite the few issues encountered, the game remains one of the best they have ever done.

Elsewhere in his talk, Jorgensen admitted that the limited microtransaction testing developers conducted during the game's beta test was "not enough to really understand some of the reactions that we ultimately got".

Before you accuse EA of making the lootboxes tied to progression in the name of greed, there are a few reports that they initially wanted them to be cosmetic, only for Disney to insist on them being otherwise. You continue to learn how they interact with the things you've made, and you run into things you have to adjust along the way.

According to Forbes, the controversy over the new Star Wars hit EA right in their shares, as they have lost $3.1 billion in the stock market since the game's launch. So if you did a bunch of cosmetic things, you might start to violate the canon.

Gamers were outraged after finding out that EA had placed outrageously steep credit prices on unlockable characters in the Star Wars Battlefront sequel, forcing gamers to spend to attain characters in the game.

"We want people to play those games as we add content and events around them for years to come", he said.

Donald Trump Challenges CNN International Coverage for Spreading 'Fake News'
During his recent Asia trip, he tweeted that he was "forced to" watch "fake" CNN , claiming that he has not done so in months. On Saturday, Donald Trump took to Twitter for one of his favorite activities: attacking CNN (now in 280 characters!).

Fans got really mad-as in death-threat mad-and nearly two weeks ago EA caved, temporarily suspending the in-game purchase system.

The idea was to have Battlefront II-a game that already costs $60-make EA a pile of extra cash by forcing players to make lots of in-game purchases to unlock popular characters, such as Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker, more quickly. "No offense to pink, but I don't think that's right in the canon".

Until Battlefront II showed up and ruined the party, investors were all for EA's focus on live services and microtransactions, but it seems opinion has soured.

"We've heard the concerns about potentially giving players unfair advantages", Gabrielson said.

EA won't be going out of business anytime soon but we can probably expect to see a change in the way it has been conducting business. "Some people have more time than money and some people have more money than time and you always want to balance those two".

"There might be things we can do cosmetically, and we're working with Lucas on that, but coming into it, it wasn't as easy as if we were building a game around our own IP where it didn't really matter". Even if that weren't the route EA chose to go down, I don't think a pink or white Darth Vader would have been make or break for most players.
