John Oliver Grills Dustin Hoffman On Sexual Misconduct Allegations

With that said, while he is being mostly cheered by the sex abuse Internet lynch mob, Oliver should be embarrassed by how he confronted actor Dustin Hoffman last night during a panel discussion commemorating the anniversary of the film Wag the Dog. The two were part of a program celebrating the anniversary of the film Wag the Dog in NY. Oliver was there to moderate a question-and-answer session about the film. "That's 40 years ago".

"Well, I'm trying harder than you are", Hoffman replied. Hoffman maintained he did nothing wrong.

Speaking on a panel at the Tribeca Film Festival in NY, the two battled over an accusation that surfaced last month that Hoffman groped and inappropriately touched Anna Graham Hunter when she was an intern on Hoffman's 1985 film "Death of a Salesman", according to The Washington Post.

After Hunter published her allegations, other stories surfaced about Hoffman's alleged inappropriate behaviour with former co-stars. "Does that feel like enough to you?" he asked.

"Yes", Oliver replied. "Because there's no point in [an accuser] lying".

Hoffman also said that he "still" isn't sure who Hunter is.

On Monday night, Hoffman doubled down on his conditional statement, this time focusing on the word "if" and "might", taking the stance he doesn't believe he really did anything to warrant such condemning media coverage and that he didn't even remember meeting Hunter or that he groped her in any way.

Harold Ford Jr., former congressman, denies sexual harassment allegations
Ford denied the accusation and said that he would "be bringing legal action" against the accuser as well as Morgan Stanley. He is alson one of the most visible members MSNBC's team of contributors - particularly on the network's " Morning Joe ".

"I don't love that response either", Oliver said.

"This is something we're going to have to talk about because... it's hanging in the air", said Oliver of the multiple accusations against Hoffman, to which Hoffman replied both that it didn't happen and that "everyone was saying it to each other". "But the things you said that were interesting to me is "the things we do between takes" and I think it's the things we do between takes that is probably a cultural shift that needs to happen". If you've given no evidence to show it didn't [happen, ] there was a period of time for a while when you were a creeper around women.

"You weren't there", Hoffman said. At another point the actor asked Oliver incredulously, "Do you believe the stuff that you read?" "Kevin Spacey wasn't starring in it", she said of the film.

Hoffman responded: "You've put me on display here".

"I get no pleasure from having this conversation, but you and I are not the victims here". "That's not innocent until proven guilty".

The back-and-forth came at a 20th-anniversary screening panel at the 92nd Street Y. The actor as well as producer Rosenthal tried several times to turn the conversation back to Wag the Dog but Oliver kept coming back to the subject at hand. Not only was the venue totally inappropriate for such an off-topic ambush, but Oliver was also very wrong to automatically presume Hoffman to be guilty of being a sexual abuser/harasser based exclusively on what is now in the public record.
