U.S. envoy to The Netherlands apologizes for freaky denials to Dutch TV

Reporter Wouter Zwart asked him about past comments he made about "no-go zones" in the Netherlands, and Hoekstra called it "fake news".

The new USA ambassador to the Netherlands is apologizing after a freakish exchange with a Dutch reporter when viral in both countries. But Zwart was armed with footage clearly showing Hoekstra talking about "chaos in the Netherlands" with "cars being burned", "politicians that are being burned" and that "yes, there are no-go zones in the Netherlands". He also said that Europe is in chaos.

Challenged about having called this "fake news", Hoekstra then went on to deny to Zwart that he had in fact used the phrase "fake news".

Then, the Nieuwsuur program cut to a clip of the congressman saying exactly what the reporter had told him he said: that Muslims in the Netherlands were setting fire to both cars and politicians, and that there were "no-go zones" in the country.

Have a look at the video below as Hoekstra is caught out in his lie.it makes for great viewing.

The comments came to light during a cringeworthy exchange on the current affairs programme Nieuwsuur on Friday where Hoekstra directly contradicted himself twice in a matter of less than a minute on live television. "I didn't use the word today, I don't think I did".

Apple Investing $390 Million In Finisar From Its Advanced Manufacturing Fund
There have been rumors indicating that Apple will use the Face ID on upcoming iPhones and iPads. Trump ran his presidential campaign on promising to bring jobs back to America.

But the former USA congressman was always going to be a tough sell for one of Europe's most liberal countries.

Hoekstra, a resident of Holland, Michigan, was born in the Netherlands and immigrated to the United States with his parents at the age of 3.

Hoekstra, who was born in Groningen in the Netherlands, was a Republican congressman for MI between 1993 and 2011, and served as chair of the House intelligence committee for two years during that time.

In that time, he adopted several positions that are at odds with core Dutch values. In the US Congress, he voted repeatedly to limit women's rights to abortion.

Sample headline from the Netherlands: "The new Trump Ambassador to the Netherlands, Pete Hoekstra, lies about his own lies".

Of the appointment, liberal politician Sophie in't Veld said: "We are looking forward with interest to co-operating with Mr Hoekstra". Hoekstra was confirmed by the Senate in November and is expected to finally take up residence in the Netherlands in January.
