Obama trounces Trump in America's Most Admired Man poll

ESOBarack Obama topped the list of most admired men in the US according to the annual Gallup poll, with President Trump coming in second, the first time since 2008 the incumbent president didn't top the list.

Trailing far behind Trump in the 2017 survey were Pope Francis with 3 percent; Rev. Billy Graham, U.S. Sen.

Gallup said about one-quarter of respondents could not name a man or woman they admire most, roughly similar to last year's share who offered no opinion in response to the question.

According to Gallup, which released its 2017 findings Wednesday, Obama is the first former president to win the title since President Dwight Eisenhower did in 1968. "The incumbent president is the usual victor, since he is arguably the most prominent figure in the country", Gallup reports.

"Trump's unpopularity is holding him back from winning the most admired distinction", Gallup observes.

U.S. envoy to The Netherlands apologizes for freaky denials to Dutch TV
Hoekstra was confirmed by the Senate in November and is expected to finally take up residence in the Netherlands in January. But the former USA congressman was always going to be a tough sell for one of Europe's most liberal countries.

Seventeen percent of those polled found that Barack Obama was the most admired man living anywhere in the world, a title he's had for the past 10 years. Former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt received the second highest number of wins with 13 nominations. She has held the title more than any other man or woman in the poll's history.

Clinton "remains arguably more prominent than other contenders", Jones wrote in a blog post announcing the findings. "However, retaining that stature may be more challenging in coming years with her political career likely over", the poll stated online.

Gallup said the poll of 1,049 adults was conducted between December 4-11 and has a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.

Taking the top slot for women was former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton with 9 percent. John McCain and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, all carrying 2 percent, and Bernie Sanders, Bill Gates, Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and The Dalai Lama, all carrying 1 percent of the polling. Michelle Obama was just behind Clinton on that list, with 7 percent to Clinton's 9 percent.
