Chelsea and Southampton reportedly interested in Andy Carroll

The striker has been frustrated at West Ham and the Blues are thinking about a potential move to sign the 28-year-old England global in the winter transfer window.

Antonio Conte is reportedly ready to allow Michy Batshuayi to leave Chelsea this month, and wants a suitable replacement for the Belgian forward as well as back up for Alvaro Morata. This has left the Chelsea manager with limited options up front.

Andy Carroll who is close to finishing his contract at West Ham, is also being targetted by Southampton.

The 28-year-old has struggled for form in recent weeks, but his brace reminded us of how risky he can be when on top form. He scored a brace in West Ham's 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion on 2 January.

In a Chelsea side composed of majestically gifted footballers, the 6 ft 4 in Carroll would offer an injection of height and power that few had really considered to be of great importance to Conte.

"I've been wanting to get there and start. I've been wanting to play", said Carroll after the West Brom game.

Following the draw, Moyes was queried about reports Chelsea were considering a move for striker Carrll, but the former Manchester United bos qas quick to shoot down such talk, saying only: "I have no idea about that".

"I've been here for seven or eight weeks, so the club should have an idea what is required as well".
