How Democrats plan to sell Trump's wall

Seeking a bipartisan compromise to avoid a government shutdown, President Donald Trump suggested Tuesday that an immigration deal could be reached in two phases - first by addressing young immigrants and border security with what he called a "bill of love", then by making comprehensive changes that have long eluded Congress.

Now Trump has called for an initial $18 billion in USA taxpayer funding for the wall, a proposal Democrats uniformly are opposed to, along with some Republican lawmakers.

While the President has floated renewing the programme in exchange if Democrats agree to fortified border security, potentially including advancing the border wall, liberal lawmakers have resisted those types of conditions.

Donald Trump, I can not stress enough how stupid this man is, and not just because of the decisions that he makes and the things that he says, but because of his gross underestimation of the intelligence of the American people.

"The other thing that we've got to look at, the wall itself, talk to your Border Patrol chief or the former Border Patrol chief, I've asked them, how much time does a wall buy you?" "And if there's other elements that have to be included in a broader deal to get signed into law, this is a foundation for that conversation". "I think I can speak for everybody, we want-(Republican Sen.) John Cornyn from Texas-we all want DACA to happen, but we also want great security for our country". DACA has become a bargaining chip as Congress moves closer to having to pass a spending bill or shut down the government.

Schumer said Tuesday that the Republican president's "tone was very good" and that it was "encouraging that the president seems open to a narrow deal" to protect immigrants brought to the USA illegally as children.

SC refers plea regarding Section 377 to Constituition Bench
Why Supreme Court canceled the Delhi high court order? "Consent between two adults has to be primary". The apex court has now made a decision to constitute a bench to review Section 377 .

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said "responsible immigration reform" would cover "DACA as well as those priorities and principles". "Because I respect them".

"Democrats will say, 'We did not cave on a wall, ' because it's not going to be a concrete wall", said Frank Sharry, executive director of America's Voice, an immigration reform organization.

He criticized chain migration and visa lotteries for the way they fail to ensure quality people immigrate to the United States, saying people who end up in lotteries are the "worst of the worst". "Believe it or not, this is the least important thing that we are talking about, but politically this might be the most important talk about", he said, implying that the wall was little more than a well-marketed concept created to appeal to his voter base.

Sen. Lindsey Graham of SC urged President Trump Tuesday to back his efforts to pass comprehensive immigration reform. It will save a couple minutes or a few seconds.

But immigrants' rights activists concede any eventual DACA agreement will need Trump's support to make it palatable to Republicans.
