Walmart Offers Packets That Turn Opioids Into Useless Gel

In a statement released today, Walmart is doing its part to combat the rampant opioid crisis in America by offering a free product at its pharmacies that safely dispose of leftover prescription medication.

Here are three things to know.

What Walmart wants to do by including packets along with the prescription is to make it possible for you to dispose of those five pills at home for free.

Walmart is incredibly proud to fund this initiative that provides our patients with an opioid disposal solution they can access nationwide, at no cost.' According to DisposeRx, packets contain a crosslinking polymer blend that, when added to the pill bottle with warm water, sequester any form of prescription drugs - including powders, pills, tablets, capsules, liquids or patches - into a non-divertible and biodegradable gel.

The world's largest retailer announced the new disposal system, known as DisposeRx, on Wednesday, with plans to make it available to use for free at all of its 4,700 USA pharmacies.

After that's done, you're matched with several paintings, in a variety of artistic styles, that have an essence of your looks. By taking a selfie in-app, Arts & Culture searches its database to find a portrait who best matches your own face.

This story has been corrected to show that the information about the types of drugs on which the packets can be used came from DisposeRx, not Walmart.

Roughly 53 percent of people who misused prescription opioids got them from family or friends, according to the 2016 National Survey on Drug Use and Health. Patients taking chronic opioid prescriptions will be offered a DisposeRx packet every 6 months, and existing patients may obtain a free DisposeRx at any time. The DisposeRx packets will be made available at Sam's Club as well.

Wal Mart (WMT) now distributes safety brochures with prescriptions and offers to counsel on safe opioid usage.

Walmart touted an endorsement of its move from Sen.

The DisposeRx launch comes in addition to Walmart's other efforts to curb opioid misuse. John Boozman, R-Ark., said that "about one-third of medications sold go unused. Too often, these unsafe narcotics remain unsecured where children, teens or visitors may have access", Arkansas Senator John Boozman said in a statement. In September, CVS Health said it would limit opioid prescriptions to seven-day supplies for new patients facing certain acute conditions.
