Pounds Of Cocaine Found In Pineapples In Portugal

Spanish and Portuguese officials intercepted more than 1,600 pounds of the drug stuffed inside pineapples as they entered Lisbon, police announced Wednesday.

According to Business Insider, nine gang members were arrested for transporting the substance from South America in the innocent looking fruits. The cylinders were placed inside fresh pineapple skins and transported across South American borders. Police finding these illegal fruits in shipping containers is the conclusion of an ongoing investigation by Spain and Portugal that began back in April 2017. Along with the discovery of the smuggle, feds busted a lab that found cocaine being cut with additives.

Police also seized €400,000 in cash.

The gang members, led by two Colombian brothers, had laboratories in the municipalities of Pinto and Nuevo Baztan near the Spanish capital Madrid.
