Commuter train hits buffers in Sydney injuring 12 passengers

Sixteen people were injured when a train crashed into a railway station buffer on Monday.

Police are at the scene of a passenger train crash in Sydney's north west, NSW Police say.

Fire and Rescue NSW were assisting the SES and multiple ambulance crews at the scene.

"T1 Sydney Trains tweeted "#WesternLine 10:11 Richmond to Central service has been cancelled due to a train hitting the buffers at Richmond earlier".

A meeting between representatives from rail operator Sydney Trains and the state's transport union, which had voted for a January 29 strike following failed negotiations over wage increases, was suspended following the incident on Monday morning, according to local media.

The crash reportedly sent passengers flying through the train.

Since the old notes are now worthless paper and can no longer be deposited, several bankers dismissed it as a fake note racket. The police has yet not revealed the name of persons arrested and further investigation is going on into the matter.

A 21-year-old man suffered a suspected fractured leg.

The injuries of those taken to hospital included broken bones, but none were considered life-threatening. In addition, "eleven people were triaged and treated at a nearby oval, " while "five people remained on the train where they were treated before also being triaged". He said the train did not appear to brake. "There was a huge amount of dust", he said.

This incident has delayed meetings between the Rail, Tram and Bus Union and Sydney trains officials.

Two patients were reported to have spinal injuries. "I watched train hit the barrier then bounce up and came back down again hard".

"Our main priority obviously given today is getting to the bottom of what has occurred here, and as I said, our thoughts are with those who were injured".
