Dolores O'Riordan funeral: Bandmates, family pay tribute to Cranberries singer

In Limerick, Ireland, thousands of fans gathered to say goodbye to Dolores O'Riordan, the lead singer for The Cranberries who died on January 15 at the age of 46.

The service took place at St Ailbe's Church in Ballybricken, about 11km outside Limerick city centre and was led by Canon Liam McNamara, a family friend of the late musician.

A member of the congregation holds up an order of service ahead of Dolores O'Riordan's funeral. I'm wrecked. I hope she's in a better place. She says, 'Mind yourself. "I want you and all the clergy around while I'm there".

He said while this is a very hard day for her family and friends, she is now singing in the heavenly choir. We will miss her gentle voice, her lovely voice.

"Yes, tears of joy, following an excellent performance by Dolores in the most important and vital gig of all - the gig of life itself".

He also said: "Her kind personality and lovely singing voice earned for her numerous admirers". "In the world of music, you become very close", he continued. Her nephews Daniel and Andrew O'Riordan played bagpipes at the end of the ceremony.

The service was followed by a private family burial, in which she was buried alongside her father Terence Patrick O'Riordan, who died in 2011 after a long battle with cancer.

O'Riordan's distinctive voice, described during the mass as unique, far reaching and distinctly Irish, filled the Church of Saint Ailbe in Ballybricken at the outset, as her duet of Ave Maria with Luciano Pavarotti was played. Thousands gathered from around the world to pay their respects, leaving flowers and signing condolence books.

O'Riordan was found dead in a London hotel last Monday.

She was in London to record a version of "Zombie" with the hard rock band Bad Wolves, the group said on Tuesday.

The mother-of-three was expected to discuss its scheduled release with record label BMG while in England.

The case has been passed to a coroner to determine the cause of death. The inquest will be reopened on April 3. Her death is not being treated as suspicious.

In addition to fans, numerous singer's peers expressed shock and sadness at her death.

Once more and yet again, people turned to one another to ask: How could this great voice and talent be lost to us forever?
