Real Madrid players will stand up for Zinedine Zidane - Sergio Ramos

Zinedine Zidane has admitted he faces the possibility of the sack if Real Madrid fail to beat PSG in the Champions League after his side were knocked out of the Copa del Rey on Wednesday evening.

Reigning Spanish champions Real have slumped to fourth place in the league, where they are 19 points behind leaders and arch-rivals Barcelona after losing two of their last four matches.

Zidane looks like he has one last chance to save his job by beating Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Following Real's humiliation, Zidane said: "It's a fiasco".

Many expected them to dominate again, but after 19 league matches played, they now sit fourth in La Liga and 19 points behind leaders Barcelona - though that will be cut down to 16 points if they win their game in hand. "I take responsibility for my decisions", Zidane said.

Real lost 2-1 at home and were eliminated on away goals in the cup quarter-finals by a club nicknamed the "pepineros" (or cucumber growers) and only in their second season in La Liga.

"To start this tie in the manner we did it's really bad". No, I'm angry with myself. I don't understand what happened.

Whilst Nacho continues to thrive so far this season, the club's fortunes have not been as fortuitous as Real Madrid now languish in fourth place in the league - 19 points behind leaders Barcelona, with just one game in hand. "I'm the one responsible for all of this". I have to find the solutions.

"We must give more, me first, as all that we have given so far is not enough, we must give more, train harder, help each other more, and we will try and do that". I'll take stock of the situation and continue working as I always have. Real won the first leg 1-0.

"I think with the moment Real Madrid is having now, I think I should be the last one to add some fuel to the fire", Mourinho said on Thursday of a potential move for Ronaldo. That dream has also crumbled tonight as Madrid crashed out of the cup thanks to a 2-1 loss against Leganes.

Zidane left Ronaldo and Bale out of the squad but included Ramos, Benzema, Isco and Asensio.

"We haven't started well in LaLiga and we are disappointed, nobody is happy about that. All we can do now is think about the remaining games, starting with Saturday (at Valencia), and prepare well for February 14".
