Trump's arrival in Davos overshadows WEF

Tom Bossert, a Homeland Security adviser to Trump, told journalists Thursday that if Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was not careful, his country's recent air and ground attacks on US -backed fighters next door in Syria could lead to a serious "miscalculation and escalation" in the region.

Trump, never invited as a businessman, will be the first United States president to attend Davos since Bill Clinton in 2000, giving him a chance to mingle with the same elite "globalists" he bashed in the 2016 election campaign. "We live in a 21st century interconnected globalized economy, and his idea of erecting trade barriers is going to unspool the entire system if left unchecked".

It is claimed the Prime Minister told him she couldn't do much about critical coverage of him in the British media, whilst aides listened in "astonishment".

At the World Economic Forum, Mnuchin said the U.S.is first looking to see a "successful transition that's good for the United Kingdom, good for the markets". He is due to address the forum on its closing day Friday at the end of a week that saw his administration announce a new package of trade tariffs and spark turmoil on the currency markets.

Mrs. Trump said in a statement to the victims and their families that "My heart is with you, and we remember".

Mnuchin insisted Thursday that his comment on the dollar was "balanced and consistent".

After Mnuchin's remarks on Wednesday, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross denied his colleague was advocating a weaker dollar, but when asked about the risk of trade wars, he told CNBC: "Trade war has been in place for quite a little while, the difference is the USA troops are now coming to the ramparts".

We look forward to that but the trade discussions that will be taking place will be leading to tremendous increases of trades between our countries and that's great for both in terms of jobs.

But logistics and Trump's shock retweeting of anti-Muslim propaganda from a British far-right group threw sand in the gears.

"They disrespected us a week ago by not allowing our great vice president to see them and we give them hundred of millions of dollars in aid and support", Trump said. The declaration delighted Netanyahu and outraged Palestinians, who declared a new USA -led peace push dead and refused to meet with Vice President Mike Pence during his recent visit to the Mideast.

"Even though the Davos people are antithetical to his populist message, he wants to confront them and to establish the legitimacy of the American approach as he articulates it, which is to confront globalism and put American interests first", Sandman said in a phone interview.

Trump arrives Thursday in the Swiss ski resort and is slated to present his "America First" message in a speech Friday to global business and political leaders.

Trump is also trying to re-negotiate the three-way NAFTA trade deal with Canada and Mexico.

Bonang Mohale, of Business Leadership South Africa, wrote that the boycott was necessary to highlight that an alternative was needed to a "world where walls, disparagement and hate dominate the discourse of the leader of the United States".

Other world leaders here, anticipating that Trump would promote his protectionist trade and isolationist foreign policy views, stressed the importance of free trade and globalization in their remarks.

French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel "stole the show" at Davos already, Kaplan added, after the European leaders used separate speeches on Wednesday to push back hard against the Trump manifesto.

The President is expected to meet with Faki's colleague Paul Kagame, the President of the African Union and Rwanda, on Thursday at Davos.
