President Trump touches down in Davos

The US president said on Thursday that he and UK PM Theresa May "will talk about" his visit to the UK, as the pair are now rubbing shoulders with fellow global leaders at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

President Donald Trump is holding private meetings with world and business leaders ahead of his address Friday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Also on Thursday, Trump met with Theresa May, telling the prime minister the U.S. and United Kingdom were "joined at the hip" in their military co-operation, adding: "There's nothing that would happen to you (where) we wouldn't be there to fight for you".

The last U.S. president to attend the WEF in Davos was Bill Clinton in 2000.

The Palestinians, he said, "disrespected us" by not "allowing our great vice president to see them, and we give them hundreds of millions of dollars in aid support". Officials say Trump awkwardly holding the British prime minister's hand during their first meeting in January 2017 was actually the "high point" of their relationship. I think the standpoint is mutual from the standpoint of liking each other a lot.

CNBC Africa asked whether the US-backed infrastructure and energy building project would survive under the Trump administration.

RARE EVENT: Super Blue Blood Moon
Areas on either side of this shadow are a bit darkened, where some sunlight is bent around the Earth's atmosphere. Sometimes, the moon passes through the lighter part of Earth's shadow, causing a penumbral eclipse.

President Trump has left the relative comfort of Washington, and now faces world leaders still angry over him calling their countries "s-tholes". "We've had a great discussion", Trump said.

According to May's office, the two leaders did discuss issues on which they have disagreed - such as the Iran nuclear deal and the Bombardier trade row, with the prime minister "reiterating the importance of the company's jobs in Northern Ireland". And alongside that, working for a good trade relationship in the future which will be to both our benefits.

Trump's comments follow a public spat a year ago, when May criticised the president for retweeting a video by the far-right group Britain First.

Trump also drew fire from political leaders in the November after re-tweeting propaganda by a fringe far-right British political group.

One had been expected, but the timing was thrown into question when the US President cancelled a trip to open the new US embassy in London in an "off location".

Trump arrived in Zurich on his way to Davos, the Swiss resort where the two days of events will take place.
