Trump pushes back against 'Fake News Media' coverage of Russian meddling

A senior Obama administration official has been quoted as saying the administration "choked" when dealing with Russian Federation.

In a May 2017 interview with NBC's Lester Holt, Trump said "this Russian Federation thing with Trump and Russian Federation is a made-up story".

The attack on Obama was the latest in a series of presidential tweets reacting to a grand jury indictment handed up Friday against 16 Russian nationals entities accused of using social media to meddle in the presidential election.

The 13 Russians are accused of setting up fake accounts using stolen United States identities, setting up themed groups and promoting political rallies throughout 2016, using Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Twitter.

Schiff agreed that the Obama administration should have done more when it learned of the Russian meddling.

But Schumer said, "Given these indictments, President Trump should implement the sanctions that Congress has passed immediately".

US President Donald Trump on Sunday glossed over any Russian responsibility and offered no indication of what his administration would do about it. According to the indictment, beginning as early as 2014, the Russian organisation Internet Research Agency began operations to interfere with the USA political system, including the 2016 election. The New York Times reports there is plenty evidence linking Trump's relationship with Russian Federation. It wasn't until the month before the election that the Obama administration publicly acknowledged the Russian efforts.

The president's tweet doesn't jibe with dozens of statements he made about special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling - in which he called the idea a "hoax", a "ruse", "fake news" or a "witch hunt" - and at least one direct statement that Russians did not interfere.

"I think that's going to be another profound thing that's going to come out about this". It was a known fact that Putin hated Hillary Clinton.

A stampede at a religious event southeast of the capital, Addis Ababa, that month claimed the lives of several dozen people. The demonstration came to an end only after the government agreed to release the political prisoners.

President Trump criticized former president Barack Obama for his perceived lack of actions towards Russian Federation interference in the 2016 election.

The Russians threw millions of dollars (the monthly budget in September 2016 was $1.25 million) behind an effort that involved extensive use of social media - Facebook and Twitter; the outright purchase of political ads; even the organizing of rallies, complete with paid participants and holders of designed-to-be-outrageous signs. "He's authorized the sale of offensive weapons in Ukraine, again, against Russian objection".

Prigozhin himself has been under U.S. sanctions since 2016 over the conflict in Ukraine.

The problem with Goldman's tweets, basically, was that they seemed to contradict the actual work done by Mueller and his investigative team.

US lawmakers - both Democrats and Republicans - and top national security officials in the Trump administration offered the same advice publicly and privately, often clashing with Trump's Twitter stream: the United States remains staunchly committed to its European allies, is furious with the Kremlin about election interference and isn't contemplating a preemptive strike on North Korea to halt its nuclear program.

Asked again if he believed Putin, Trump called several top USA intelligence officials "political hacks", and argued that other matters were more important.

But Trump has yet to impose those sanctions on Russian Federation.

"All that has done is appeal to those big fringes while uniting all of our politics actually against Russia and Russian interference", he said.

Trump met Sunday afternoon with Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan, discussing immigration, taxes, infrastructure and the Florida shooting, the White House said.
