Louisville to vacate basketball records from 2011-15, including '13 national title

I know that's not how this works, that it would be unfair to name MI the champs because maybe if Louisville had been ineligible for the 2013 NCAA Tournament, another team from their side of the bracket - say, No. 9 seed Wichita State, which lost to the Cardinals in the Final Four - might have gone on to the title game and won. The favored, No. 1 seed Louisville Cardinals pulled away late to top the upstart No. 4 seed Michigan Wolverines 82-76 in a game that featured a bunch of noteworthy young players: Tim Hardaway, Jr., Glenn Robinson III, Caris LeVert, Russ Smith, Mitch McGary, Montrezl Harrell, Nik Stauskas, Trey Burke, and Gorgui Dieng. Not only will the wins and records be erased from the record books, but the school has been ordered to pay back the money that they received as well.

It's the finale to years of accusations, violations and appeals in the fallout from the Katina Powell sex scandal. Postel estimated that to be about $600,000.

"I can not say this strongly enough", interim U of L President Greg Postel said at a news conference.

"In its review of the case, the appeals committee found that because of the serious and intentional violations with direct involvement of a university staff member, the Committee on Infractions panel was within its legislated authority to prescribe the vacation of records and financial penalty", the NCAA stated. "And we made a strong case - based on NCAA precedent - that supported our argument", he wrote.

Besides taking down the red-and-white banner hanging beside the American flag and two other title flags in the Cardinals' downtown arena, Louisville must erase wins before and after that championship, along with other records.

Iran's Zarif says Israel's "myth of invincibility" has crumbled
The gun is the ballistic missiles that the Iranians are developing, unchecked by the nuclear deal and undeterred by UN Security Council resolutions, he said.

Greg Postel, the university's interim president, said the Kentucky school disagreed with the decision but it was time to turn the page.

Former coach Rick Pitino was found to have failed to properly monitor his program.

Postel criticized the decision, saying the NCAA "ignored" the university's cooperation in the college athletics governing body's investigation into stripping and sex-themed parties at a basketball dormitory. The team had already self-imposed a postseason ban for the 2016 ACC and NCAA tournaments.

"The Committee on Infractions responded to the appeal by stating the penalties were appropriate due to the serious, intentional and numerous violations orchestrated by a university staff member for almost four years".

The penalty is the result of an NCAA probe that found that a former Louisville assistant coach had organized "sex parties" for recruits, rendering them ineligible. Pitino has not been charged, but he and Louisville athletics director Tom Jurich were fired in the wake of the allegations.
