Wendy Williams has contracted Graves disease, stepping away from show

She announced the news on her show "The Wendy Williams Show", and said that she is taking three weeks off to focus on her health.

"Wendy is a true champion and has never missed a day of work ..."

Williams revealed the diseases promotes nervousness but it doesn't affect her because she is a vet in the business. "Anyway, my thyroid has been totally cattywampus and that is the eye thing that you all have been seeing". While she suspected something was wrong, the host admitted she let the events going on in her life take priority over her health.

Williams urged her audience, especially the women there, to visit their doctor routinely. "I was pissed. Encore performances, really?" stated Williams to her audience in a conversation transcribed by US Weekly.

When the star returned to her show on Monday, she apologized to fans for the inconvenience and expressed that she was feeling better.

Inside Edition spoke to Dr. Roshini Raj about what Graves' disease is.

During her absence, The Wendy Williams Show will rerun old episodes until she returns to the show.

Graves' disease is the most common cause of hyperthyroidism, so some Graves' disease symptoms are the same as hyperthyroidism symptoms.

According to the Mayo Clinic, Graves' is an autoimmune disorder that causes the overproduction of thyroid hormones, which can lead to symptoms including anxiety, fatigue, irregular heartbeat, puffy eyes, and intolerance to heat.

She went on to say her doctor prescribed time off as a result. Yesterday, Wendy's doctor prescribed a necessary three weeks of rest to get her levels and medication in sync. "I'm a thoroughbred. I have not taken off since we started the show". "I'm a champ and I'm back!" Second of all, if it's going to go down, it's got to be as cute as I could make it. I'm not trying to give you the screw face, I just don't want to give you the scary, scare. I will be back Monday and topics will be POPPING! For the last few days, she's been absent from her show.

Stay tuned; we will have a little bit more information on Williams' show and her future as it comes out.
