Opera's data-saving app gets revived by Samsung as a Galaxy exclusive

This data saving app has returned, and it's now called Samsung Max. So if you've been happily using Opera Max on a non-Samsung device for the past six months, the next update that rolls out will render the app useless for you. You can turn on the Premium feature to save the Data by compressing the images, videos, music files and web pages.

Samsung Max bears the support of the latest iteration of Data Saving Mode and Privacy Protection Mode of the brand. In some cases, it can even be used to help you save money on your mobile data plan over time. There is also the ability to block background data usage. Moreover, the manufacturer mentioned on the software's Google Play listing that the app is capable of boosting Wi-Fi connectivity in crowded areas or in locations with poor signal, although the company did not provide additional information on how this feature works. But in 2014, it launched the standalone Opera Max browser for Android, created to get its users more bang from their data plan, along with some VPN-like features. In the same vein, there is Samsung Max' data-savings cloud access to make data usage efficient and secure from third-party services. If you were hoping to use the app on non-Galaxy handset, you're in for some bad news. The mode's tracker blocking and DNS (Domain Name System) masking service will help to access the web safely both via mobile and wireless network. The app will come pre-installed on certain devices in developing nations including Argentine, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Mexico, South Africa, Thailand and Vietnam. Yes, you read that right. The app is compatible only with Samsung smartphones. " said Seounghoon Oh, Vice President, Samsung R&D Institute India. Unfortunately, Opera announced that it would be shutting down Opera Max as it "had a substantially different value proposition", than its other browsers, but today it's getting a second chance at life thanks to Samsung. Samsung Max offers a one-tap encryption solution to secure WiFi hotspots.
