"I just fear if it was a different teacher, if more teachers have guns, this could have been a lot more tragic than it was".

She said she has Davidson for US history and has been in his class since August.

Police said the teacher surrendered within 35 to 45 minutes after barricading himself.

A high school teacher in the United States is in custody after firing a shot inside a classroom.

A year ago, an officer was told that Jesse Randal Davidson was missing, according to WDEF.

The jail records do not indicate whether he has an attorney. Students alerted the principal after they couldn't get in.

Emma then texted her mum, 'omg she's putting a desk in front of the door'. Classes will resume at Dalton High school on Friday. He taught social studies, and served as play-by-play voice of the school's football team.

A teacher has been arrested after firing his gun outside the window of his classroom while barricaded inside it, CNN reports.

Police have not said why he fired the gun.

There were no direct injuries caused by the bullet, though a student reportedly hurt her ankle running from the scene.

Police didn't immediately say why Davidson fired the gun, but noted that he aimed away from anyone into an exterior window as the principal tried to unlock the classroom door.

Fortunately, students were not present inside the class at the time of the incident.

Hours later that same day he was found near the intersection of School and April streets, nearly a mile's walk away.

Dalton is about 90 miles (145 kilometers) northwest of Atlanta.

WRCB reports that no students were inside the classroom at the time.

Police said the teacher, armed with a handgun, didn't want to involve students in whatever it was he was doing.

Police did not say what type of firearm was used but confirmed it was a handgun.

Dalton City Schools spokeswoman Pat Holloway said Friday that school district officials had been made aware of the March 2016 incident but confirmed they didn't know about the run-in involving the auto fire until this week. Police say a teacher is in custody.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, this event occurred two weeks after a Florida school shooting claimed 17 fatalities and sparked national debates about gun control. Police did not release any explanation for what happened.

The school building was placed on lockdown and students were then evacuated to the Dalton Convention Center. Parents are asked to rendezvous there to pick up their children.

In her tweet, she described students "being trampled and screaming" during Wednesday's evacuation of the school north of Atlanta.
