Virginia Tech Collapses Against Notre Dame

Notre Dame pulled off a dramatic comeback against Virginia Tech on Wednesday, which just may propel the Fighting Irish into the NCAA Tournament.

"How about that, huh?"

Notre Dame coach Mike Brey, who earned his 500th career victory, said there are no restrictions on Colson.

Second seeded Duke awaits Notre Dame in Brooklyn.

"I think we certainly are in the conversation", coach Muffet McGraw said after the 74-72 loss to Louisville. "When I have my guys back, we're a top-20 team, and I think people on that committee know that. We have another great opportunity to end all the drama of it tomorrow night".

The Irish went on to win a huge game against the Hokies and mounted their biggest comeback in Notre Dame basketball history.

Notre Dame slowly started to come back as they started making their three-pointers, and when Chris Clarke committed a technical foul with 8:00 left, the momentum really started to swing.

Pitching remains a point of emphasis moving forward for the team, and Aoki has highlighted the importance of pitching consistency amidst the volatility of college baseball.

"We disintegrated", said Hokies' head coach Buzz Williams.

Bears apply transition tag on CB Fuller
Bears general manager Ryan Pace expressed interest in retaining Fuller at last week's National Football League scouting combine. Some have wondered if Fuller would want to return after the lost 2016 season when he sat out after arthroscopic knee surgery.

"We pride ourselves on defense, we can play with anybody" added Justin Bibbs who scored 15 points against the Irish.

On the ensuing possession, Notre Dame came through with four total free throws, closing within four points at 54-50.

Two minutes to go and Colson connected from the wing for the Irish to finally take the lead back 60-59. After the ball banked in, he kissed three fingers on each hand and gestured to the crowd with arms raised.

Virginia Tech hit six of its first seven shots in the second half and built a 47-26 advantage with 15:07 remaining. These are times where you've got to show your leadership.

Rameses threw a stiff-arm at the Leprechaun, leveling the Notre Dame mascot. And when it was over, Farrell and Colson embraced in a big bear hug, senior to senior. "There are things that - I think there are a lot of things that - some of these young guys need to continue to make the transition to college baseball and trust in their ability, I think probably more so on the mound rather than anywhere else". "He's been a brother to me for my four years here". Colson looked exhausted, which was understandable given that he was playing on consecutive days in just his fourth game back from a foot fracture.

Notre Dame simply could not get shots to fall early on shooting just 25% in the first half. The Fighting Bobby Hurleys have just three Quadrant 1 wins and an 8-9 record against the top two Quadrants with two Quadrant 3 losses, but they have happen to have the best pair of wins of any team in the country, beating Kansas in Phog Allen Fieldhouse and knocking off Xavier on a neutral court.

"You didn't think it was going to be easy tonight, did you?"

"I have no idea", junior point guard Justin Robinson said.

The Fighting Irish stayed within striking distance until the final 10 minutes, when the Blue Devils broke the game open with an 18-0 run keyed by reserve forward Jack White on their way to an 88-66 win. Still, this was a very disappointing way to make a postseason exit. But Duke's veterans know as well as anybody that it's possible to play without fresh legs and keep winning at the ACC tournament. Notre Dame was led by senior Matt Farrell on the offensive end, scoring a game-high 22 points.
