Kentucky man pleads guilty to assaulting US Sen. Rand Paul

Rene Boucher entered the plea of guilt in federal court in Bowling Green, Ky., to a charge of assaulting a member of Congress. Paul suffered broken ribs in the attack past year.

A federal judge accepted a plea agreement from Rene Boucher on March 9, which means he is now convicted of the assault.

His attorney Matt Baker says the retired physician is ready to put the ordeal behind him.

Boucher, an anesthesiologist, faces up to 10 years in jail and a $250,000 fine.

Rand Paul in the Kentucky lawmaker's yard has pleaded guilty to the attack that broke the senator's ribs. Bates, 76, who said he confused his stun gun with his handgun, was released in October after serving less than half of his four-year sentence for second-degree manslaughter.

According to Associated Press, Boucher has agreed to pay restitution to Paul, but the amount will be confirmed during the sentencing later this year. Baker said he will ask for probation.

Charged with assaulting a member of congress, Boucher said that the attack was sparked by an argument over their lawns. Rand Paul while Paul was mowing his lawn. He developed pneumonia when he returned to Kentucky.

Boucher is free on bond and living in his house next to the senator's home, Baker said. At the time, he said: "It has nothing to do with politics ... it has to do with a disagreement between two neighbors".
