CSA officials face action over SBW masks

Cricket South Africa has issued an apology to Cricket Australia after two CSA officials were photographed posing with fans, who were wearing Sonny Bill Williams masks at St George's Park.

The photo shows Kazi and Eksteen smiling as they linked arms with three men who were wearing the masks in an attempt to torment explosive Australia opening batsman David Warner during the second Test match.

The Proteas supporters wore those masks in a bid to rile up Warner.

Cricket South Africa released a statement distancing itself from the action.

With relations between the teams already severely strained, two South African cricket officials have been photographed smiling with fans who were wearing masks created to taunt Australia vice-captain David Warner.

Warner copped three demerit points and was fined 75% of his match fee for an altercation with Quinton de Kock in the first Test, while Nathan Lyon was fined 15% of his match fee for dropping the ball on AB de Villiers after running him out.

CSA President Chris Nenzani also weighed in on the matter: "On behalf of CSA I extend my honest apologies to the Board of Cricket Australia (CA), its officials, team management, players and their families".

CSA president Chris Nenzani apologised to the board of Cricket Australia and its officials, team management, players and their families. Candice Warner's encounter with Williams was widely reported in the Australian media, which coined the phrase "toilet tryst" to refer to it.

CA is furious with the conduct of Eksteen and Kazi, with chairman David Peever and chief executive James Sutherland expressing their disgust to their South African counterparts.

"CSA has taken immediate precautionary steps against the CSA officials allegedly involved in this incident and will follow the organisation's normal internal processes in this regard".

The photographs, taken on Day 1 of the ongoing second Test, have since gone viral on social media.

Sports Sunday panellist and netball legend Liz Ellis has slammed the behaviour of South African cricket fans against Candice Warner.

Rabada denies the contact was intentional but faces being banned for the final two tests of the series if found guilty.
