Snow and ice warning extended through weekend

Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wexford, Wicklow, Cavan and Monaghan will see the coldest conditions.

The Met Office has also issued yellow warnings - meaning travel delays and disruption are possible - for large parts of England, Scotland and Wales between Friday and Sunday.

Temperatures will also be dropping, with the "real feel" temperature as low as -6'c over the weekend.

Gusts of up to 50mph inland and 60mph by the coast will bring a bitter windchill and Adam Dury, of Norwich-based Weatherquest, said the entire weekend will be "pretty, pretty cold again". Another band of snow is expected to hit from 5pm on Saturday through to midnight on Sunday.

Weather warnings are out for Saturday and Sunday across the county.

The Met Office warnings for snow and ice begin at 3pm on Friday for central and eastern Scotland and the north east, and run into all of Saturday where more of England is included. Becoming less cold by midweek.

Forecaster Craig Snell said the cold snap will only last a few days, and with a high of 15.9C on Thursday, he warned many places in Britain over the weekend will be nearer to freezing. "Significant wind chill will be another factor".

Trump examines border wall prototypes in California
The Justice Department last week sued to block a trio of California laws created to protect people living in the USA illegally. On Monday Sanders stressed that the wall is something Trump "is not going to back away from" and will continue to push for.

He added: "Bitterly cold is the best way to describe it. Temperatures on the face of it will probably be just around freezing, but with the wind, it's going to feel well below freezing".

"Turning very cold with lowest temperatures falling to between -1C and -4C with a widespread sharp frost".

A spokesperson said: "A band of rain will turn more widely to snow early Saturday morning followed by scattered snow showers through the remainder of the day". 850hpa temperatures will be around -11°C so the potential for shower development and streamers forming over The Irish Sea increases.

Outbreaks of showery rain across north Leinster and Ulster this morning, Friday, will slowly clear through the day, according to Met Eireann.

Elsewhere the rest of the day will be generally dry and bright.

"Highs of 7C to 11C in light southeast breezes".
