FedEx Package Addressed To Austin Explodes At Texas Facility

The Schertz explosion makes the fifth explosion in area since March 2.

A package exploded at a FedEx facility near San Antonio early Tuesday morning. An employee was left with minor injuries.

Austin authorities now warn residents of a possible serial criminal targeting residents through explosives. The first three were parcel bombs dropped off in front of homes on Austin's east side, with the fourth an apparent trip wire device that went off on the city's west side on Sunday.

How did the bombings start?

Four other Austin bombings have killed two people and injured four others since March 2.

The victim in this explosion, Anthony Stephan House, died from his injuries after being transported to a local hospital.

Two people have been killed because of the bombs. Police are now investigating a second explosive device that was found in the FedEx system.

With no apparent rhyme or reason to these package bombs - everything is being treated with suspicion. The packages appeared to be hand-delivered to the victims' door steps overnight, Manley said.

The man spoke to us only briefly, and said he couldn't believe what was going on and asked if we hadn't any clue who this was.

I love freestyle wrestling, so I'm going to be competing for a really long time , hopefully, after this. "I'm excited about it". I felt good about the second match and I feel even better about the third match if we end up competing against each other.

Here is the timeline of events that have led hundreds of investigators on a manhunt. A police spokesman later said the chief "misspoke" and there was "no secondary device".

"No matter how inconsequential you think it may be, that may be the piece of evidence we need to link it together and solve this, before we have someone else in our community that gets seriously injured or killed", he said.

A blast on a residential street Sunday became all the more terrifying after Austin Police Chief Brian Manley confirmed that it had been triggered by a tripwire and manufactured with "a higher level of sophistication". This is because the bomb was activated by a tripwire set alongside a roadway.

Authorities have not identified the two men who were hurt Sunday, saying only that they are in their 20s and white. It means the carnage by a suspected serial bomber that has terrorized Austin for weeks is now random, rather than targeted at someone in particular.

Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Michelle Lee said the explosion happened around 1 a FedEx facility in Schertz, which is just northeast of San Antonio and about 60 miles southwest of Austin.

Four hundred and ninety-seven packages have been reported to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. One worker reported ringing in her ears after the blast. We'll move quickly to correct the record and we'll only point to the best information we have at the time.
