'Affluenza teen' Ethan Couch prepares to leave jail Monday

The Texas miscreant dubbed "affluenza teen" after he killed four people while driving drunk was released from jail Monday.

Couch was sentenced to ten years probation and therapy.

Couch earned his nickname when a psychologist testified on his behalf, saying he suffered from "affluenza", which made him incapable of fully accepting responsibility.

Prosecutors wanted Couch to serve 20 years in jail, but he was sentenced only to probation.

The group Mothers Against Drunk Driving issued a statement calling Couch's short stint in jail "a grave injustice to the victims and their families who have been dealt life sentences because of one person's devastating decision to drink and drive". Later that night, Couch, who had a Blood Alcohol Level of.24 (nearly three times Texas' legal limit), Couch and some friends piled into his father's pickup truck. "We'll continue to watch him because we have a partnership with Tarrant County to make sure that he at least adheres to all his rules of probation when he does get out on Monday", said Sheehey-Church.

Terms of his release include drug and alcohol monitoring and testing and a 9 p.m. curfew, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. From the beginning, Ethan has admitted his conduct, accepted responsibility for his actions and felt true remorse for the bad consequences for those actions.

Almost 1,000 people - including rebels, their relatives and other civilians - were moved out on Saturday, followed by 5,435 people on Sunday.

Now a free man, Couch will still have to serve ten years' probation.

They were arrested about two weeks later, about 1,200 miles away in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where they had changed their appearances and ditched their identifications. He was extradited and later sentenced to 720 days in jail for the violation.

She was released on bond, but last week violated the conditions of her release when she allegedly failed a court-ordered drug test.

Ethan Couch was extradited back to the US and later sentenced to 720 days in jail for violating the terms of his probation.

Couch claimed his mother took him there against his will, and the judge did not buy it. Couch, who turns 21 next week, is prohibited from drinking alcohol while he is on probation.

After she was discovered in Mexico with her son, Couch's mother was charged with hindering apprehension of a known felon and money laundering.
