Why would Israel launch strikes on Syria?

President Donald Trump said Monday he will make a decision as early as this evening on the United States response to what he called an "atrocious" chemical weapons attack on civilians in Syria and warned that he will hold the responsible parties accountable.

Trump made the remark in the Cabinet Room of the White House during a meeting Monday evening with his top military leaders, including Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Joseph Dunford.

DONALD Trump has said he will soon make a decision, "probably by the end of today", on how the USA will respond to the latest alleged chemical attack by the Syrian government, adding that "nothing is off the table" in terms of military action.

Mr. Trump yesterday promised a rapid decision on action, as "we can not allow atrocities like that".

Initial US assessments have been unable to determine conclusively what materials were used in the attack and could not say with certainty that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government forces were behind it.

A chemical weapons attack on innocent civilians in Syria drew a response of fired missiles at a Syrian air base early Monday morning, according to Syrian State TV.

"If it's Russian Federation, if it's Syria, if it's Iran, if it's all of them together, we'll figure it out, and we'll know the answers quite soon".

"We call on the parties to the conflict in Eastern Ghouta to urgently allow OPCW inspectors access to the area", said Mr Peters. On Monday, a missile attack that Syria blamed on Israel reportedly killed 14 more.

Haley accused Russian Federation of protecting Syria at the United Nations while Moscow's military advisers in Damascus are helping Assad wage a "starve or surrender campaign" against Syrian civilians that includes the use of chemical weapons. "They're saying they're not", Trump said.

The foreign ministry in the Netherlands said two of the injured were Dutch, one of whom was in a critical condition. The vehicle ploughed into people seated at tables in the old city centre of Muenster, a popular tourist destination.

Assad's military allegedly used chemical weapons this weekend to clear a rebel-held territory in Douma, just outside the capital of Damascus.

Ghassemi also tried addressing the current controversy in terms of recent gains by the Syrian military over opposition forces, stating, "While the Syrian army has the upper hand in the war against armed terrorists, it is not logical for them to use chemical weapons". President Putin, Russia and Iran are responsible for backing Animal Assad.

The U.S. military has a wide range of warplanes and other capabilities in the Middle East.

After initially blaming the USA and France for the missile attack, Russia's military says two Israeli jets fired eight missiles at the Syrian base. The guided missile destroyer is armed with Tomahawk cruise missiles, the weapon of choice in a US attack one year ago on an airfield in Syria following an alleged sarin gas attack on civilians.

Russian Federation vetoed a Western-backed resolution in November that would have extended the mandate of the joint UN-Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons body that had blamed the Syrian government and the Islamic State extremist group for using chemical weapons.

Nebenzia also said that investigators with the global chemical weapons watchdog should fly to Syria as early as Tuesday to look into accusations about the attack, offering them protection from Syrian authorities and Russian troops.

Washington is weighing a multinational response against the Syrian government, Reuters news agency reported late on Monday, citing administration officials.

The Syrian government and the Kremlin have denied involvement in the attack. "I don't rule out anything right now", Mr Mattis said while hosting Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, the emir of Qatar, at the Pentagon.
