Four new names have been added to the Atlantic tropical storm list

Goodbye and good riddance.

Due to the extensive damage caused by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Maria, and Nate, these storm names will not be repeated in the future, according to a release from the NOAA. The storm did around $800 million in damage and killed 45 people in Central America and the United States.

The NOAA reports that Hurricane Nate made landfall in the Gulf Coast as a category 1. The storm caused "catastrophic flooding" and killed at least 68 people, the NOAA reported.

Irma caused seven direct deaths in the USA and 85 indirect deaths, 80 of which were in Florida, according to the WMO. Maria was the strongest storm to strike the island since the 1930s. When it hit Puerto Rico, it was still a Category 4, and the strongest storm to hit the US territory since 1928.

Still, the drug remains federally illegal and is classified as a Schedule I narcotic, the harshest of five government ratings. The politicians' years in public office may help the company navigate the winding road to federal legalization.

There have been 86 names retired from the Atlantic basin since storms began receiving names in 1953.

Since 1979, the WMO has been using a six-year name rotation. For example, Katrina, Sandy and Isabel are all names that have been retired from the list. But only time will tell if any of the year's named storms will join this infamous list of devastating hurricanes.

Although this past year was destructive, the 2005 Hurricane Season retired the most names - Dennis, Katrina, Rita, Stan and Wilma. The four new names will be used in the 2023 season. They will be replaced by Harold, Idalia, Margot and Nigel. "Bush field recorded 4.10" of rain that day, which is 0.88" more than our average rainfall total for the entire month of September.

The World Meteorological Organization is responsible for coming up with the list of storm names. The WMO has a rotating list of names for each Tropical Cyclone basin, such as the Atlantic or Eastern North Pacific.
