"I had a little chat with them (the deceased brothers) before I went in (the ring) and they were definitely in there with me", Nicolson, the face of Australian boxing at these Games, said.

The five boxers and three weightlifters disappeared from their rooms in the athletes' village in separate waves on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights.

"I felt a lot of pressure earlier in the competition but my family have been messaging me, speaking to me and telling me they're so proud of me no matter what happens and it took a big load off", Nicolson said.

"The compliance officers will be out there".

"There is no law in the country that says if you flee and you come back, you will be punished", he told SBS News, adding he didn't know the whereabouts of the missing competitors.

Commonwealth Games chairman Peter Beattie earlier told reporters he was not surprised that some athletes had gone missing, but they hadn't breached their visas.

Christine Ongare won Kenya fourth bronze medal and only medal for Kenya in boxing at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games despite 5-0 loss to Northern Ireland's Carly Mcnaul at the Oxenfen Studios.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the ABF said the Australian government had been "working closely with the organising committee and global stakeholders to ensure Commonwealth Games officials and athletes were aware of their visa responsibilities".

The athletes - two women and six men - were named as boxers Simplice Fotsala, Arsene Fokou, Ndzie Tchoyi, Ulrich Yombo and Christelle Ndiang, plus weightlifters Olivier Matam, David Minkoumba Petit and Arcangeline Sonkbou Fouodji.

Walsh's defeat opened up familiar wounds as she also missed out on gold in the same circumstances at the 2014 games in Glasgow.

The fact that two of the Cameroonian athletes had failed to take part in their events particularly saddened Commonwealth Games Federation chief David Grevemberg.

"Right now we are anxious about safety and welfare of the athletes and we are taking this very seriously and monitoring the situation with team Cameroon", Mr Grevemberg said. "There are mechanisms in place and they haven't breached their visas".

"If there is a breach Peter Dutton and the department will deal with it".

After the 2000 Sydney Olympics, more than 100 athletes overstayed, while during the London 2012 Olympics, seven athletes left the village.
