Belief Clinton would win election 'factor' in email probe - Comey

This is somewhat reminiscent of the way Comey balked at the brink of indicting Hillary Clinton in her email controversy in 2016, saying she had been "extremely careless" about handling emails that may have been classified, but that no prosecutor would take the case to court. While Comey does not outline the details of the information - and says he didn't see indications of Lynch inappropriately influencing the investigation - he says it anxious him that the material could be used to attack the integrity of the probe and the FBI's independence.

In the book, Comey compares Trump to a mob boss demanding loyalty, suggests he's unfit to lead and mocks the president's appearance.

"James Comey, a man of integrity?"

On Sunday, Trump's envoy to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, insisted the President had spent the week focused on foreign policy, demurring on questions about the Sunday morning broadside against Comey.

The renewed attacks by Mr Trump came as US ABC News was set to air an interview with Mr Comey (at 12:00pm AEST) in which he discusses his book, A Higher Loyalty.

Trump has furiously lashed out at Comey in recent days. The interview kicks off a media blitz by Comey to promote the release of his book.

Comey's book will be released next week. After Clinton's loss, many Democrats blamed Comey, and Clinton herself has said it hurt her election prospects.

Trump has launched a series of attacks since previous year against USA law enforcement leaders and institutions as the Russian Federation probe pressed forward, in addition to Comey and Mueller.

Oil breaks above $70 a barrel as shadow of trade war recedes
Gasoline stocks fell by 1.1 million barrels, compared with analysts' expectations for a 1.3 million barrels drop. Departures from the accord would result in renewed sanctions against Iran, which would hurt its oil industry.

Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper told CNN he had "every confidence" in the accuracy of Comey's book.

On Monday, federal investigators searched Cohen's NY residence, office, hotel room, safety deposit boxes and cellphones. "That she's going to be elected president, and if I hide this from the American people, she'll be illegitimate the moment she's elected, the moment this comes out".

Some of this has become remarkably vituperative, assuming the tone of Trump's own attacks on Twitter.

Trump denied that he asked Comey for his personal loyalty.

White House aides said Sanders' unusual barrage at Comey reflected Trump's anger and that Trump was pleased by her performance. Comey has published the book 11 months after he was sacked by Trump. "It was nearly an out-of-body experience for me".

Comey's book also reportedly reveals that his firm belief that Hillary Clinton would win the 2016 presidential election influenced his decision-making process and that his goal in his October announcement was to help ensure the legitimacy of her presidency. I scarcely even realized that particular guy.

But Trump wouldn't let the matter rest, bringing up the allegations at least four times.

Trump also asked why the Democratic National Committee did not give its email server to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, or why the Federal Bureau of Investigation didn't seize it after it was hacked by Russians during the presidential campaign. What struck him most, Comey told ABC, was that the conversation moved straight into a public relations mode, what they could say and how they could position Trump.
