Four killed in fresh protests, clashes on Gaza-Israel border

Israeli army gunfire killed a 15-year-old boy and two young men, aged 24 and 25, in northern Gaza, rescue workers said, and a 29-year-old Palestinian was shot dead in the south of the coastal.

Nabil Abu Rudeinah, spokesman for President Mahmoud Abbas, said on Friday the leadership will approach the United Nations Security Council again to demand global protection to the people of Palestine under Israeli occupation.

Israel has vowed to put an end to attacks and attempts to damage the border fence that stands there.

Hamas, the terror organization that controls Gaza, says the protests are aimed at breaking a border blockade imposed by Egypt and Israel after Israeli troops pulled out of the area in 2005.

A Palestinian uses a hammer to peg down a large slingshot to hurl stones during clashes with Israeli forces across the border in the southern Gaza Strip on April 20.

With the protests seen by Israel as posing a challenge to its security forces, military aircraft dropped leaflets in the border area early on Friday warning against approaching the fence. The Israeli army said it was looking into the incident.

"Half of the more than 500 patients we have admitted in our clinics have injuries where the bullet has literally destroyed tissue after having pulverized the bone", said Marie-Elisabeth Ingres, head of the group's mission in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

Hamas has acknowledged that several of those killed in recent weeks were its members, and Israel has identified other fatalities as members of terrorist groups.

The same officials say Syria has continued to produce or procure chlorine, which also has industrial and agricultural uses. Asked about the risks of USA military retaliation, Mattis cited two concerns, starting with avoiding civilian casualties.

The protests are calling for Palestinian refugees to be allowed to return to their former lands now inside Israel.

"I call on the United Nations representatives to condemn Hamas for encouraging violence, continuing to strive to create instability and the despicable exploitation of women and children by placing them in harm's way", Danon said.

Among the thousands gathered to protest, at least hundreds were approaching the fence and throwing stones and burning tyres, an AFP correspondent said.

Two weeks ago, photographer Yaser Murtaja died after being shot in the stomach despite wearing a blue flak jacket marked with the word "press".

On Friday they fitted kites with cans of flammable liquid, which they flew across the border to start fires in Israel. One white kite bore the Nazi swastika.

Some 30,000 Palestinians take part in the first of the demonstrations on March 30, marking Land Day, for the 1976 Arab protests against Israeli plans to expropriate land. The message on the leaflet reads in Hebrew and in Arabic, "Zionists: There is no place for you in Palestine".

Every year on May 15, Palestinians all over the world hold demonstrations to commemorate Nakba Day, which marks the anniversary of the forcible eviction of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homeland by Israelis in 1948.
