Donald Trump's tweet mentions 'Pakistani mystery man' after Democrats file suit

US President Donald Trump in a statement hailed the Democratic National Committee's (DNC) lawsuit filed against his campaign and Russian Federation because it will expose information related to Hillary Clinton's email scandal that was previously denied the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

"The conspiracy constituted an act of previously unimaginable treachery: the campaign of the presidential nominee of a major party in league with a hostile foreign power to bolster its own chance to win the Presidency", DNC Chairman Tom Perez said in a statement.

The DNC complaint alleges, in a nutshell, that Russian hackers' attempts, combined with Trump associates' interactions with Russian officials, amounts to a massive conspiracy to alter the results of the 2016 election cycle.

The Democratic Party filed a lawsuit Friday alleging that Russia, WikiLeaks and top officials from Donald TrumpĀ“s campaign conspired to tilt the 2016 U.S. presidential election in the RepublicanĀ“s favor.

Seeking millions of dollars in damages, the suit names Trump campaign aides such as the president's son-in-law Jared Kushner, campaign chair Paul Manafort and campaign deputy Rick Gates.

Some are hopeful, too, that the legal process demanded by the lawsuit could force the Trump campaign to make some crucial campaign documents public.

Mr Trump has repeatedly denied the allegations, referring in a tweet this week to the "phony Russian Federation investigation where, by the way, there was NO COLLUSION (except by the Dems)".

Special counsel Robert Mueller is investigating Russian election meddling and any ties to Trump campaign associates.

The DNC also names as a defendant the Russian military-intelligence service, the GRU, which has been accused by the US government of orchestrating the hacks, as well as WikiLeaks, which published emails stolen from the DNC, and the group's founder, Julian Assange.

"Just heard the Campaign was sued by the Obstructionist Democrats", the president tweeted Friday.

Instead, it targets various Trump aides who, during the campaign, met with people believed to be affiliated with Russian Federation.

Roger J. Stone Jr., a former campaign adviser to Trump who is named as a defendant in the suit, dismissed it in an email as "a left-wing conspiracy theory dressed up as a lawsuit".

That conspiracy violated the laws of the U.S., Virginia and the District of Columbia, the lawsuit says, and "under the laws of this nation, Russian Federation and its co-conspirators must answer for these actions". The DNC was reportedly so low on funds for the 2016 election that it had to borrow money from the Clinton campaign. The DNC's lawyers could request documents related to the alleged collusion in the discovery phase of the trial, during which lawyers on both sides ask for material relevant to the suit.
