WhatsApp to raise its minimum age to 16 in Europe

Aside from the age restriction change, the firm also announced that it will let users download the data that the service collects on them - this feature is being planned for roll out in the next update.

WhatsApp shared the updates in a blog post today and said that it has done so to comply with the EU's upcoming GDPR that will go into effect next month. In regions outside of Europe, the minimum age to use WhatsApp is still 13.

WhatsApp, founded in 2009, has come under pressure from some European governments in recent years because of its end-to-end encrypted messaging system and its plan to share more data with its parent, Facebook. Our goal is simply to explain how we use and protect the limited information we have about you.

While WhatsApp requests a less robust dataset than some of Facebook's other platforms, it will be enacting new terms of service and privacy policy package that over-16 signees must agree to. The limit will remain 13 elsewhere in the world.

Whiteside a non-factor for Heat again
LaMarcus Aldridge led the Spurs with 18 points while 35-year-old Tony Parker delivered 16 points in a throw-back performance. There were 14 lead changes and nine ties in the half, the Heat taking a 64-63 lead into the break.

Amid the looming regulations on tech companies' data practices, the writer revealed that Google collects users' personal data more than Facebook does, in terms of the volume of information it gathers, the reach of its tracking, and the time people spend on its sites.

Facebook is under scrutiny from regulators and lawmakers around the world since disclosing last month that the personal information of millions of users wrongly ended up in the hands of political consultancy Cambridge Analytica.

As we get closer to the rollout of Europe's new GDPR standards, several companies have started notifying their users to receive consent or inform them about change in different policies.

Lastly, Facebook said it now does not share WhatsApp account information to improve the ad experience on Facebook, however, it did reiterate that it plans to "work closer" with other Facebook companies in future.
