Iran's FM: No Renegotiating Nuclear Deal

The White House statement was a response to Monday's presentation by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who presented documents accusing the Iranian government of lying about its nuclear ambitions during the period preceding the signing of the nuclear deal with the US and other nations. It appeared to contradict findings by worldwide inspectors who have found Iran to be in compliance with the nuclear deal signed in 2015.

Hamid Baeidinejad said that if Washington withdraws from the agreement as President Donald Trump has said he would, Tehran could resume its uranium enrichment and "redefine our cooperation with the agency and some other activities that are under consideration".

European signatories of the deal have been trying to persuade Trump to save the pact.

Ali Akbar Velayati, senior foreign policy adviser, said on Thursday that while Iran is committed to the nuclear deal, it will withdraw if any changes are proposed or if Washington rejects.

British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said Britain will stick to the Iran nuclear deal because it is based on "tough verifications". It claims the country's nuclear programme was more advanced than it indicated at the time.

Their ambassador to the UK, Hamid Baeidinejad, told CNN on Wednesday failure for U.S. compliance "means that there is no deal left".

"We should not scrap it unless we have a good alternative", he said. "Iran lied on the front end. So I think we should separate things".

"It remains a vitally important way of independently verifying that Iran is adhering to the deal and that Iran's nuclear program is exclusively peaceful", he said in a statement.

"I don't know what the U.S. president will decide on the 12th of May", Macron told reporters while on a visit to Australia.

Iran has denied ever seeking nuclear weapons and accuses its arch-foe Israel of stirring up world suspicions against it.

Trump gave Britain, France and Germany a May 12 deadline to fix what he views as the deal's flaws - its failure to address Iran's ballistic missile program, the terms by which inspectors visit suspect Iranian sites, and "sunset" clauses under which some of its terms expire - or he will reimpose USA sanctions.

Velayati warned against any attempts to renegotiate in exchange for sanctions relief, saying, "Iran accepts the nuclear agreement as it has been prepared and will not accept adding or removing anything".

Iran maintains that the missiles it has tested are not created to carry nuclear warheads and insists its nuclear programme is a peaceful one for energy purposes. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has called into question the legitimacy of the USA and Israel making moves to have the deal scrapped after it gained the consensus of five world powers in 2015 in what was widely regarded at the time as a significant diplomatic victory in the global community.
