5 police, inmate dead in Indonesia prison riot; hostage held

All terrorist inmates surrendered to the police on Thursday after an exchange of fire between the two sides at a jail following a riot, according to the country's chief security minister.

Five officers and one prisoner have been killed in a riot at a police detention centre in a city near Jakarta that authorities allege was earlier being targeted by Islamic militants.

Gen. Mohammad Iqbal, a National Police spokesman, told reporters that the riot erupted late Tuesday at the detention center, which lies within the local headquarters of the National Police Mobile Brigade, a paramilitary police unit, in Depok, West Java Province.

The Islamic State group's Amaq News Agency published a report saying the fighting was between its fighters and the counterterrorism squad.

Mr Iqbal denied IS was behind the attack or that it had been planned.

"We are securing the situation, containing inmates so this doesn't spread". "We will present the details of the matter later when we can handle it", he said.

He's correct to call the analysts "sell-side", meaning they come from brokerage firms, which earn fees when clients trade stocks. The iconoclastic tech leader sent Tesla stock downward after the call, which generated a number of noteworthy quotes.

Five ambulances had left the jail and arrived at a police hospital, where six orange body bags were placed on stretchers, independent news website Detikcom reported.

Brigadier General M. Iqbal, Head of the Public Information Bureau of the National Police Public Relations Division, when reviewing the scene on Wednesday morning, May 9, confirmed the steps already taken.

Police officers maintained tight security around the jail and kept onlookers away from the entrance.

IS sympathizers have carried out a series of low level attacks in Indonesia in recent years.

It comes several days after the arrest of three terror suspects accused of plotting to attack the police headquarters and other facilities in the same area.
