Cohen distances himself from tax-cheating

Poroshenko sought an audience with Trump and directed confidantes to orchestrate it, according to the report, using the Chabad house as a channel to reach Cohen and, through him, the president.

Freidman's agreement, given his ties to Cohen as a business partner, may put still more pressure on the Trump associate and attorney, who faced federal raids in April before the Justice Department announced it had been conducting a months-long investigation into him. The White House did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

Sources in Ukraine told the BBC that Poroshenko believed that Trump's Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, would win the USA presidency, and had authorized the leak of a document that was published by The New York Times in August 2016. There is no evidence at this time that Trump knew of the payment to Cohen, the BBC's sources say.

The special master, former federal judge Barbara Jones, is tasked with reviewing whether the seized documents are protected by attorney-client privilege before turning documents that are not protected over to prosecutors, who are investigating Cohen for possible crimes related to his business dealings.

"But negotiations continued until the early hours of the day of the visit".

The investigation into Mr Cohen arose in part from special counsel Robert Mueller's inquiry into possible collusion between the Trump 2016 presidential campaign and Russian Federation, something that Mr Trump has repeatedly denied.

The Ukrainian side were angry, the official went on, because Cohen had taken "hundreds of thousands" of dollars from them for something it seemed he could not deliver.

Apart from introducing GPS-enabled wrist watches for sanitary workers, the NMC had constructed over 1,000 public toilets. State ranking was introduced in this year's survey, which was conducted between January 4 and March 10.

"Today, the "Taxi King" admitted that he built his empire by stealing from New Yorkers", acting attorney general Barbara Underwood said in a statement.

Giuliani, who met with Poroshenko in Ukraine late past year, said he did not know anything of such payments to Cohen and said he was still getting caught up on the story.

He also helped arrange a 2016 payment to an adult film actress who said she had a sexual relationship with Trump. "I've already publicly said that this is destroying my life".

Another source in Kiev gave the BBC the same details on the meeting but said Cohen was paid $600,000.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko reportedly wanted to make amends with Donald Trump because he ordered the leak of Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort's (pictured) Ukrainian work because Poroshenko thought Hillary Clinton would win the election. Mr Manafort resigned a few days later.

"There was never a direct order to stop the Manafort inquiry but from the way our investigation has progressed, it's clear that our superiors are trying to create obstacles", the prosecutor in charge of the case, Serhiy Horbatyuk, told the BBC.
