Donald Trump to leave G7 early, tensions high after 'rant' over trade

U.S. President Donald Trump says Canada will have to dismantle its supply-managed dairy system or else Americans will dramatically curtail its trading relationship - a shot across the bow at Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who has vocally defended the country's existing agricultural policies in the face of U.S. opposition.

President Trump leaves the G-7 summit after holding a press conference in the Canadian resort town of La Malbaie.

As he headed to the summit of G7 nations - the United States, Canada, Japan, Britain, Italy, Germany and France - the USA president said: "Russia should be in the meeting". He also made controversial comments to reporters calling for Russian Federation, which had been kicked out of the G8 in 2014 over its Crimea invasion, to have its membership reinstated.

When asked about President Trump's earlier comments on trade, in which he warned his allies off imposing retaliatory measures for the tariffs, Mr Trudeau told reporters: "The president will continue to say what he says at various occasions".

"Were looking for peace in the world".

Later, Trump will fly to Singapore where he is set to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on June 12.

In May, Trump hit Canada, Mexico and the European Union with steel and aluminum tariffs as part of an effort to create "FAIR TRADE" agreements with America's partners.

Leaders of the seven richest nations vowed to send a "strong message" that interference by Russian Federation and other foreign states will "not be tolerated", British Prime Minister Theresa May said, according to SkyNews.

The U.S. leader described the meetings with his counterparts as cordial, and he repeatedly blamed past U.S. leaders for what he views as a trade imbalance.

"Trump came late, he's leaving early and he gave no ground whatsoever", Al Jazeera's John Hendren, reporting from Quebec, said.

Such a summit would be the third such meeting of Trump and Putin since Trump took office past year.

The US president was very much the odd man out on climate change during the G7 in Italy previous year, later announcing his intention to withdraw from the landmark Paris agreement.

Putin indicated that he did not like "a lot" of the U.S. authorities' decisions but praised Trump for his consistency.

G7 participants were also angered by Trump's stance on climate climate - a key issue on the group's agenda.

"The European Union is brutal to the United States and they know it", Trump said, adding that other leaders acknowledge as much in private.

The United States' closest trading partners - the EU, Canada and Mexico - have vowed to impose retaliatory tariffs on scores of USA products beginning in the coming weeks.

Most leaders at the summit have clashed with Trump over new tariffs, which impose a 25 percent tax on imported steel and a 10 percent tax on imported aluminum. He says gender equality must "cut through" everything the G-7 does.

President Donald Trump delivered a stern warning on trade to foreign countries at the Group of Seven summit on Saturday, advising trading partners not to retaliate against US tariffs on the imports of steel and aluminum.

Trump contends that other countries "have been taking advantage of the United States on trade".
