A taxi has crashed into a crowd of World Cup fans in central Moscow, leaving eight people reportedly injured.

The Mexican embassy in Moscow said two Mexican women, visiting the city for the World Cup, had been lightly injured by the taxi. Police said the driver in the crash was detained, but other Russian authorities said he had stated the crash was accidental.

"According to preliminary information, seven people were injured", TASS cited the source as saying.

Sources say the driver pleaded with people at the scene, claiming he did not mean to hit the football fans.

The same witness said that the driver tried to flee the scene but was apprehended by police. He was shouting: "'It wasn't me'".

However, data shows more Nevadans under the age of 18 committed suicide this year already, compared to all of last year. The Minnesota Health Department has increased efforts to identify at-risk communities to help reduce suicides.

Moscow's traffic management authority said the driver had a licence issued in Kyrgyzstan and had not driven into the crowd of people deliberately.

Asked if the driver appeared drunk, the witness said: "No, he wasn't drunk".

The accident took place on Ilinka Street, about 200 metres from Red Square and Moscow's famous Gum shopping arcade.

Russian Federation hosts the 2018 FIFA World Cup from June 14 to July 15.
