Amid summit backlash, Trump calls for second meeting with Putin

Sanders said the White House was considering Russia's idea of allowing its officials to interview 11 Americans - including former United States ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul - in exchange for special counsel Robert Mueller to interview 12 Russians indicted for meddling in the 2016 USA presidential election.

Bloomberg reports Putin gave this account of the meeting to a conference of Russian ambassadors and other officials at the Foreign Ministry in Moscow on Thursday.

The Russian ambassador to Washington also denounced "anti-Russian anger" in the United States and reiterated denials of Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election - interrupting a questioner to say "We didn't interfere!"

Coats said he felt the need to "correct the record" when he issued a statement Monday reaffirming that the USA intelligence community has concluded that Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 election. Trump tweeted. The announcement of the invitation came as the White House sought to clean up days of confounding statements on Russian interference in the 2016 election that sent Trump to the presidency. "Just like I consider myself to be responsible for things that happen in this country", Trump said to CBS News.

"Now with that being said if it doesn't work out I'll be the worst enemy he's ever had", he said of Putin. In that statement, Coats restated the US intelligence assessment about Russian meddling and Moscow's "ongoing, pervasive efforts to undermine our democracy".

When CBS News chief White House correspondent Major Garrett asked on Wednesday whether the president believes Russian meddling is happening, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said "not specifically", since "there's now not an election today".

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said that meeting may come this fall.

Theresa May's office quickly dismisses MP's call for new Brexit referendum
But the early break is likely to spark widespread criticism given that the recess is already scheduled to last for six weeks. Justine Greening told the BBC on Monday that Parliament is "gridlocked" over Brexit.

"The sentence should have been, 'I don't see any reason why I wouldn't, or why it wouldn't be Russian Federation'".

On Twitter Thursday, Trump called the summit "a great success" and cited Ukraine among the areas discussed, without providing details. The White House said earlier this week that it is considering the Kremlin's request, prompting a backlash from both Republicans and Democrats.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), who has spent the week mounting a fierce defense of Trump's outreach to Putin, objected to a proposal from Sen.

How did Trump respond to Putin's suggestion?

"But look at the sanctions I have put on", Trump said to Kernen.

Putin's boasts about the new weapons have been greeted with scepticism in Washington, where officials have cast doubt on whether Russian Federation has added any new capabilities to its nuclear arsenal beyond those already known to the US military and intelligence agencies.

Coats, being the top US intelligence official that he is, of course reacted as if he hadn't been told a thing about it.

Sanders said Trump was still weighing the offer with his team, adding, "We've committed to nothing".
