McConnell says Putin unwelcome on the Hill

Trump, who goes back and forth about what he accepts about the years-long campaign of "active measures" against the West, now says the cyberattacks, online agitation and other techniques could be turned against him and Republicans in the 2018 congressional races.

But leading congressional Republicans and US energy firms concerned about losing business with Russian Federation have been seeking to put on the brakes.

The law is created to punish Russian President Vladimir Putin for the 2014 annexation of Crimea from Ukraine, involvement in the Syrian civil war and meddling in the 2016 USA presidential election.

"I understand why members would want to respond to what happened in Helsinki, and I think there's concerns about just where the administration is with Russia", Corker said to reporters Wednesday, according to Politico.

"Just as Vladimir Putin has made clear his intention to challenge American power, influence, and security interests at home and overseas, the United States must make it abundantly clear that we will defend our nation and not waver in our rejection of his effort to erode western democracy as a strategic imperative for Russia's future", they added, referring to the Russian president.

Senators have made clear they want details of what, if anything, Trump and Putin agreed to during that meeting, as well as any commitments made by the two sides in the subsequent meeting between the leaders and their top aides.

Trump has consistently favoured a dialogue with Russia in areas of convergent interests, but the virulence of anti-Russian sentiments in the US Congress, within his own Administration, the security agencies and the mainstream media has spawned punishing steps against Russia that contradict his stated position. Trump's administration has imposed 213 Russian sanctions, Pompeo said, expelled 60 Russian intelligence officers and supported the US military posture in Europe.

Maguire has forged a reputation as one of the Premier League's best ball-playing defenders during his time at Hull and Leicester. Anthony Martial has been told he can leave Manchester United - but only for the right club and the right price.

Shortly after Trump's appearance with Putin in Helsinki, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats issued an unusual statement reaffirming his view that Russia's election attacks are already ongoing - something Trump's post on Tuesday did not.

Two high-powered Senate committees are teaming up to hold a string of hearings on the challenge posed by Russian Federation, U.S. sanctions policies toward Moscow and Russia's impact on relations in North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and with other U.S. allies.

It wasn't immediately clear whether the Kremlin had formally turned down the White House behind the scenes or whether the USA chose to foreclose its offer before getting an official answer from Moscow.

Trump came under widespread criticism following his handling of a summit with NATO's leaders and his meeting last week with Putin. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., on legislation to impose new sanctions on Russian Federation in relation to interference in the 2016 election, said moving the second meeting with Putin was "probably a smart decision by the White House".

Democrats are seeking to take control of the House of Representatives and Senate in the November elections from the Republicans. Mark Warner, D-Va., the Democratic leader on the Intelligence Committee, and Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, the chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

"Providing the Secretary of State with a CAATSA waiver authority is imperative", US Secretary of State Jim Mattis had said four days ago.

Trump initially denied the Federal Bureau of Investigation findings at the press conference following the one-on-one meeting with Putin. In 2016, he repeatedly claimed the election was "rigged".
