Commander Of Bin Laden Raid: Revoke My Security Clearance Too, Trump

Bruce Ohr may be his next target.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced the decision to pull Brennan's clearance at a briefing on Wednesday, reading a statement from Trump that accused Brennan of making "a series of unfounded and outrageous allegations - wild outbursts on the internet and television - about this Administration".

"There's no silence", Trump said.

Signaling that his efforts to target clearances over his frustration with the Russian Federation investigation were not over, Trump tweeted that it was a "disgrace" for Bruce Ohr to be in the Justice Department.

Mr Trump says he is reviewing security clearances for nine other individuals, including the eight pictured, alongside former FBI Director James Comey.

This comes days after Trump told reporters that he blames Brennan and his other enemies in the intelligence community for Robert Mueller's investigation. The opposition research firm hired former British spy Christopher Steele during the 2016 presidential campaign to compile the dossier. Rove said Brennan has been "over-the-top" and "irresponsible" with his criticisms against the president - though he wasn't sure how advantageous it would be for Trump to paint Brennan as the newest member of "the resistance". "Decisions on security clearances should be based on national security and not political views".

William McRaven, a retired four-star admiral who oversaw the 2011 Navy SEAL raid, directly addressed Trump in a Washington Post op-ed published online Thursday.

"Therefore, I would consider it an honor if you would revoke my security clearance as well, so I can add my name to the list of men and women who have spoken up against your presidency", he added.

According to reports Thursday, Bruce Ohr stands to lose his job at the department if the president revokes his security clearance. "I've never respected him".

Michael Morell, a former acting director and deputy director of the Central Intelligence Agency, explained to CBSN why he felt he needed to speak out.

"If anything, I'm giving him a bigger voice", the president said. Many people don't even know who he is, and now he's a bigger voice, and that's okay with me, because I like taking on voices like that. "I could go into conflict after conflict", Trump said.

Trump also lashed out at Mueller, saying former FBI Director James Comey was the special counsel's "best friend".

He wrote in Thursday's New York Times that Trump "clearly has become more desperate to protect himself and those close to him".

Brennan on Twitter described Trump's action on Wednesday as part of a broader effort "to suppress freedom of speech and punish critics", adding that it "should gravely worry all Americans, including intelligence professionals, about the cost of speaking out".
