Man City boss Guardiola blames World Cup for De Bruyne injury

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has suggested that a lack of rest contributed to the knee injury sustained by Kevin De Bruyne.

The 27-year-old flew to see renowned doctor Ramon Cugat the following morning, with further tests revealing that he does not require surgery on his damaged lateral ligament.

"We'll never know, but my opinion is that we demanded a lot of the players".

Many are tipping City as favourites to win the league once again this season, while they got off to a great start with a 2-0 win over Arsenal.

After sustaining the injury in training on Wednesday, De Bruyne appeared at the premiere of All or Nothing, a documentary about last season's champions to be aired on Amazon Prime, on crutches and with his right knee in a brace. They (the football authorities) say "let's go" and we are in the competition. It's part of the game, part of the amount of games and seasons, games and seasons (they play) and in the end the players fall down.

"Nobody knows, but I'm pretty sure this can influence it".

"This can happen because you build an unbelievable stadium for Tottenham Hotspur - sometimes there are delays, this kind of thing happens. If you're fresh, with normal vacations, then that doesn't happen".

"When you look at Manchester City, possibly Liverpool, I don't think they (United) have the quality of those two teams at the minute", Scholes, who retired in 2013, told the Daily Mirror.

"We want to help the Premier League". We have to play every game like it was an important game.
