Actor Burt Reynolds Dead at 82

Burt Reynolds died Thursday morning of a heart attack at a hospital in Florida, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The actor had struggled with health issues in recent years and underwent major heart surgery in February 2010.

Reynolds was known for starring in films including The Longest Yard, Boogie Nights and Smokey And The Bandit. The musician says that Reynolds greeted him with his giant trademark smile and said, "You made my day". He later married Loni Anderson in 1988, and the pair adopted a son, Quinton Anderson Reynolds.

Smokey and the Bandit opened the same year Star Wars hit theaters. "I was interested in having a good time", Reynolds wrote in his 2015 memoir, But Enough About Me. He earned a People's Choice Award in 1979, 1982 and 1983 as all-around male entertainer of the year, and was picked as favorite motion picture actor on that show in 1979, 1980, 1982, 1983 and 1984. The movie won Reynolds a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Reynolds had mixed feelings about the film in spite of the acclaim.

Reynolds excelled in football and was a star halfback at Florida State University before an injury derailed his career. Reynolds turned his attention to acting, moving to NY, where he struggled for several years until he landed a role in a revival of Mr. Roberts starring Charlton Heston in 1956.

"Handmaids" are protesting at Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing
Kavanaugh said, "The first thing that makes a good judge is independence, not being swayed by political or public pressure". Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) questioned him about his view that a ban on semi-automatic assault weapons is unconstitutional.

Reynolds kicked himself for some of the roles he turned down, such as Jack Nicholson's characters in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and "Terms of Endearment", and Richard Gere's part in "Pretty Woman". However, it's the roles that Burt Reynolds turned down during the height of his fame that might be more noteworthy.

Reynolds also directed several movies in which he starred, including Gator (1976), The End (1978), Sharky's Machine (1981) and Stick (1985). Reynolds briefly contemplated a career in law enforcement, but a teacher recognized his talent while reading Shakespeare in English class and pushed him toward acting.

It was the original "Smokey" in 1977 that Reynolds is best known for; a Hal Needham action comedy flick that featured Reynolds as Bo "Bandit" Darville, a man hired to transport 400 cases of beer from Texas to Atlanta in 28 hours in his black Pontiac Trans-Am. I know I'm old, but I feel young.

He would later call Field "the one that got away".
