Tropical depression taking shape; bringing rain, breeze, and humidity to Central Florida

As of 10 p.m., the center of Tropical Storm Gordon was moving northwest at about 14 miles per hour.

A tropical storm warning and a storm surge watch are in effect for Harrison, Hancock and Jackson counties and parishes in southeast Louisiana, according to the National Weather Service in New Orleans.

Tropical Storm Gordon was pounding South Florida with heavy rain and strong winds on Monday and could strengthen to near-hurricane force as it moves toward the Louisiana Gulf Coast over the next two days, the National Hurricane Center said.

The Florida Keys have already experienced the heavy rain and wind from the tropical storm.

Across the Atlantic Ocean, we still have Tropical Storm Florence. As of now it has maximum sustained winds of 45 miles per hour, and is bringing rounds of heavy rain and gusty winds to southern Florida.

There were no coastal watches or warnings in effect.

But don't let your guard down even if Gordon doesn't reach hurricane status, he said Monday afternoon.

Rodgers signs record extension with the Packers
Although it seems the Packers have front-loaded his new deal, being the highest-paid player ever comes with lofty expectations. Especially one where the Chiefs dealt away one of the league's biggest stars, Marcus Peters.

Gordon is expected to produce rain accumulations of 4 to 6 inches over southern Alabama, southern and central MS, and southeastern and northeastern Louisiana, with isolated maximum amounts of 8 inches through late Thursday, according to the hurricane center. A Hurricane Watch is in effect for the Alabama and Mississippi Coasts, including Mobile, Gulf Shores, Biloxi, and Gulfport.

Tropical Storm Gordon is forecast to make landfall Tuesday night somewhere between eastern Louisiana and southern Alabama as a formidable tropical storm.

Gordon strengthened rapidly overnight, and it was expected to hit the central Gulf of Mexico sometime late Tuesday.

In Volusia County, the National Weather Service warns that scattered to numerous showers and lightning storms are forecast today. This is a fluid situation and tropical storm conditions will begin to be experienced along northern parts of the Gulf coast by Tuesday. In this zone, the water could rise up 3 to 5 feet above normally dry land at the coast.

"The deepest water will occur along the immediate coast near and to the east of the landfall location, where the surge will be accompanied by large waves", the center said.

In addition to Florence, forecasters also are watching a tropical wave located that's just emerged off the west coast of Africa. Tornadoes are also possible through Wednesday night over MS and western Alabama, it added.
