Zlatan Ibrahimovic scores to reach 500 goals for club and country

Playing for LA Galaxy against Toronto FC today he notched up the milestone more or less exactly as you expect, with a spinning, backward, karate kick back heel volley - not bad mobility for a 36 year old!

Zlatan Ibrahimovic joined Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as the only active players with 500 or more senior club and worldwide goals after scoring an eye-catching effort during LA Galaxy's defeat by Toronto.

Ibrahimovic's goal, which came minutes before half-time, sparked what had seemed to be a Galaxy comeback, with goals from Ola Kamara and Rolf Fletscher drawing them level in the second half. Unfortunately, it was not enough to earn Galaxy a point as Toronto scored two late goals to pick up the 5-3 win.

The World Cup victor attempted and failed to imitate Zlatan's acrobatic prowess before saying, "I tell you to play football and you watch too much Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Bruce Lee".

He added an additional 62 goals for the Swedish national team.

"I was close to the goal".

"Obviously it's not good to lose ... but I'm happy for Toronto because they'll be remembered as my 500th victim", he was quoted as saying to TSN after the match.

But more importantly the exquisite strike put his name in the history books as only the third active player to score 500 career goals - after Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
