Chelsea beats Liverpool on Hazard's stunner

Seeing that this is the first match of two between the sides with Saturday's league meeting awaiting them, the Merseysiders were not about to slip up and were in control on every area of the pitch.

As The Reds look to maintain their 100 percent start to the season, Chelsea will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing goalless draw at West Ham last weekend.

Daniel Sturridge missed a glaring opportunity in the opening seconds of the second half as he seized on Andreas Christensen's bad back pass and rounded Willy Caballero but couldn't keep his balance as he rolled the ball wide of the open goal.

Two of those brought in by Sarri and Klopp tested their opposing goalkeepers early on, as Andreas Christensen sent a header at Simon Mignolet, before Naby Keita fired a shot into the palms of Willy Caballero.

Alvaro Morata had the game's first big chance in the 19th minute, but, after collecting a superb lofted pass from compatriot Cesc Fabregas, he was denied by Mignolet's fingertips and failed to convert the rebound from a tight angle.

But Eden Hazard came off the bench to inspire a dramatic late turnaround as Chelsea struck twice in the last 11 minutes at Anfield.

Morata then sent a header over before Chelsea survived another lapse at the back, with Ross Barkley heading towards his own goal and Mane's effort going wide off Caballero. On that occasion, Jurgen Klopp rested his key players and discovered that the depth of his squad was a weakness that would stop Liverpool winning trophies.

The Blues are in third spot in the Premier League table. The Carabao Cup is not the be-all and end-all for Liverpool, but they need to mark their obvious improvement with a trophy - any trophy. An individual goal of breathtaking brilliance which only a handful of players on the planet are capable of.

Having said that, the former Monaco midfielder put in a decent shift and showed great promise; lets not forget this was his first start in a new division against a high-flying Chelsea side, so this was never an easy introduction, but Liverpool fans can be encouraged by his performance.
