Nance Jr. staying home with Cavs, signs 4-year extension

The Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to a 4-year, $45 million extension with forward/center Larry Nance. Nance averaged 8.9 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in his 27 appearances in the regular season for Cleveland, and they clearly see him as an important piece for the future.

The Cleveland Cavaliers gave Kevin Love a massive extension earlier in the summer to keep their one remaining All-Star for the next five years. Nance Jr. was acquired in a February trade with the Los Angeles Lakers, along with guard Jordan Clarkson. "Surreal doesn't even cut it". In 192 career National Basketball Association games, including 55 starts, Nance is averaging 7.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists. "That's the style we want to play, everyone's involved that way, I think everyone has fun playing that way". The 25-year-old will make $12.7 million in the first year of the deal and approximately $9.6 million in 2022-23, after which he will be an unrestricted free agent.

"I don't have any regrets about leaving", says the former No. 5 lottery pick, who grew up between California and Oregon. To re-up here for four more years and get to wear the (number) 22 in the city of Cleveland, I can't put it into words.

"I feel like there's no pressure on us. There's no place I would rather be".

Nance Jr and co. will be looking to get their season off to the best possible start when they take on the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night. He helped Cleveland reach its fourth straight NBA Finals and the Cavs view him as one of their core players as they try to stay competitive while James starts anew out West with the Lakers.

Nurse's willingness to point out what might not have been done last season is noteworthy, and while he may have been champing at the bit to make those changes a year ago, he has full authority to do so now.

There's only so much you can learn about a team during pre-season action especially with a new head coach trying to get players acclimated to his system and get an idea of his ideal lineup.

When Osman was asked by play-by-play announcer Fred McLeod if he was pleased with his own performance, Osman responded by saying "I mean, I'm not because we lost" (h/t the Cavs' Official Website).
