Mourinho tells United to treat Young Boys clash as 'last chance'

The United manager spoke of his frustrations with his team's sub-par performances before the match against Swiss side Young Boys, saying he wanted his players "not to be reactive but proactive". It is exactly the opposite.

"Do I prefer to play Young Boys here or go to Bern?"

Young Boys are the visitors on Tuesday evening as the Red Devils look to reach the Champions League last 16 with a game to spare - a feat they will achieve should they win and Valencia fail to beat Juventus.

Meanwhile, Luke Shaw assured supporters the players are committed to helping the club recover from their poor start to the season after Mourinho accused the dressing room of lacking heart and desire after Saturday's draw.

"I would say if we have him for the Christmas period where we need, if possible, every player to be available for that hard period until the Newcastle match on January 2. I want to play this game as a knockout game".

Mourinho's men are two points off Group H leaders Juventus and two ahead of third-placed Valencia following the 2-1 come-from-behind win in Turin earlier this month.

'It's unfair to harp back to old times with the new regimes but it needs good passing and positive play - it's the total opposite to what we're seeing with the current team and it's very much with the identity of this team.

"But a team to cope with that happiness to play a decisive game".

But Lindelof's resurgence after a slow start to life at United has been derailed by a muscle issue, meaning Mourinho's remaining centre-back options are Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones.

Matteo Darmian, who started against Palace, was also missing from Monday's training, along with Marcos Rojo.

"We decide to change hotel so we are not coming from Manchester city centre, we are going to stay in hotel just a few metres away", said Mourinho. Information is that things will be much better than last time.

As he plans to crank up the pressure on his players to secure a victory against Young Boys, Mourinho was asked if his players prefer to play away rather than at home due to the expectations of United's 75,000-plus supporters at Old Trafford. "If you feel pressure when people come to support you stay at [your] home and watch on TV". "If it is not better I walk", Mourinho added.

"I describe like is not a crucial match because if we don't win tomorrow we still don't depend on other results", he said, per the Mail. "I never felt pressure to play at home".
