Trump on climate change report: 'I don't believe it'

Donald Trump has rejected a central conclusion of a dire report on the economic costs of climate change released by his own administration.

We want to hear from you.

The damning report, known as the National Climate Assessment, says that the consequences of climate change will leave no part of the US untouched and that the warming climate will increase wildfires, crumble infrastructure, worsen air quality, destroy crops and lead to more frequent disease outbreaks.

"Here's the other thing, you're gonna have to have China and Japan and all of Asia and all these other countries you know, it addresses our country".

But Trump diverted attention away from the responsibility and contribution of the U.S.to climate change to the emissions produced by other countries, telling reporters that America is "the cleanest we've ever been".

U.S. President Donald Trump speaks to reporters outside the White House on November 26, 2018.

The measure, signed by almost 200 countries, sets rules for fighting climate change. That's up from 2010, when Gallup first asked it and only a third of Americans thought global warming would impact them.

White House spokeswoman Lindsay Walters said the new report was "largely based on the most extreme scenario, which contradicts long-established trends by assuming that.there would be limited technology and innovation, and a rapidly expanding population". In the December 2015 Quinnipiac poll, 83% of Democrats thought the USA should be doing more, compared to 62% of independents and 26% of Republicans.

Regional economies and industries that depend on natural resources and a favorable climate, including agriculture, tourism and fisheries, will suffer, the report finds.

He has also rolled back Obama-era environmental and climate protections to boost production of domestic fossil fuels. "That affects our jet stream pattern and counterintuitively might lead to more extremes on both sides - whether it be drought and flood, or cold and warm - because we get these higher amplitude wave patterns in the jet stream".

"What the USA needs to do is participate in a long-term conversation about how you get to innovation, and it's going to need to be a conversation again that doesn't start with alarmism", Sasse said.

Governor-elect Ron DeSantis, also a Republican, has said he does not view climate change as a problem for the state to take on, except in terms of trying to cope with the damage being done by rising seas.

Blake Hurst, president of the Missouri Farm Bureau, said Monday the report was "pretty disturbing" but agreed that agricultural producers will have to meet the challenge. "If we're clean and everyone else is dirty, that's not so good'".

The president also took the United States out of the Paris Climate Accords. It should be noted that this disastrous climate change report heralding the apocalypse comes on the heels of a report in Nature that showed the global tree canopy increased 865,000 square miles in the past 30-plus years.

Green Car Reports respectfully reminds its readers that the scientific validity of climate change is not a topic for debate in our comments.

Trump insisted Monday the U.S. is "the cleanest we've ever been", and said other countries weren't keeping up.

On Monday, Trump told reporters that he had read "some" of the report.
