J&K: LeT militant who killed journalist Shujaat Bukhari shot dead in Budgam

Scores of persons were injured during intense clashes with the government forces in Kuthpora Chadoora near Chattergam area of Budgam district on Wednesday following the killing of top LeT commander Naveed Jatt and his associate in an encounter.

The forces had laid a siege around the Chatergam area after receiving credible inputs about the presence of two militants in the area, who during the search operation opened fire upon forces, triggering a gunfight.

Three security personnel were injured during the clash, the officials said.

Security forces in Indian-administered Kashmir claim they have killed a senior fighter believed to be involved in the murder of a prominent Kashmiri journalist in June.

Shujaat Bukhari was shot dead by terrorists on June 14, 2018, when he was coming out of his office in Press Enclave in Srinagar.

The killing of Jatt is seen as a big success for the security forces in their anti-militancy operations.

The start of the Christmas Shopping season begins on Black Friday
Offline, about 164 million shoppers are expected to hit brick-and-mortar stores on the year's busiest shopping day. The line of shoppers at Kohl's in Kanawha County started forming at 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day 2018.

In a statement, the J&K police said that Jutt was part of the same LeT group which also included Mumbai terror attack convict Ajmal Amir Kasab who was hanged to death in Pune's Yerawada Central Jail in November 2012 and that both had received arms training at a madrassa in Pakistan.

"This week was great, those involved in killing of innocent people in Kulgam, Pulwama and Shopian belt were neutralised. As per ground verification, top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Naveed Jatt was one of the two terrorists killed today", ANI quoted Jammu and Kashmir DGP Dilbagh Singh as saying. Instead, three houses were set ablaze, following which the militants came out and were killed, witnesses said.

Trained at the LeT's Muridke headquarters in Pakistan, Jatt is reported to have entered Kashmir in 2012, through Kupwara sector. A joint operation was launched by the state police and the army after specific intelligence that the terrorists were hiding in a village. He also conspired and executed several bank robberies and attacks in south Kashmir including the attack on the Court Complex Pulwama in March 2014 in which two policemen were killed.

Meanwhile, authorities have suspended mobile internet services in Budgam and Pulwama districts.

Naveed Jatt was last spotted at the funeral of a terrorist who was among the five gunned down by security forced in an encounter in Shopian district in August.

The gun battle broke out when those holed up inside the house fired at security forces.
