Israel engages air defense to intercept anti-aircraft missile from Syria - IDF

Syria's air defences have repelled a missile attack on Damascus suburbs on Tuesday, Syrian state television reported.

The unnamed source told the magazine he had received the information from top Israeli military brass.

On November 29, Syria said its air defenses foiled an Israeli strike over al-Kiswah region in southern countryside of Damascus.

Regime media report air defence confronted "enemy targets" above the capital and downed most of the missiles before landing. It was also unclear if the Syrian missile merely went astray, or was purposely fired toward Israel as a warning.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the Israeli air strikes targeted three positions south of Damascus that were arms depots for Lebanon's Hezbollah group and Iranian forces.

An arms depot was hit and three soldiers were injured due to the attack, official news agency SANA reported, citing a military source.

Trump warns Fed not to make 'mistake' ahead of likely rate hike
The press conference with Mr Powell will be "particularly important", economists at Goldman Sachs said. As a result, like many economists, he predicts that the Fed will raise rates only twice next year.

However, Israeli military did not confirm any air raids had taken place, instead saying that the county's response was a defensive maneuver.

"It's an Israeli raid", said Rami Abdel Rahman, who heads the war monitor.

"The decision to withdraw 2,000 U.S. troops from Syria will not change our consistent policy: We will continue to act against Iran's attempts to entrench itself militarily in Syria, and to the extent necessary, we will even expand our actions there", Netanyahu said.

Experts say Israel is to be greatly affected by US President Donald Trump´s announcement of a withdrawal of American forces from Syria, as it would leave the area open to Iran and its partners to develop their military capacity.

In October, Russia equipped the Syrian army with the advanced S-300 surface-to-air missiles, days after Israeli fighter jets used a Russian surveillance aircraft flying nearby as a shield and misled the Syrian air defenses to shoot it down.
