Browns make smart decision with hire of Freddie Kitchens

The Browns are moving quickly through the interviews for head coaches, and today a report from Ian Rapaport of NFL Network says "to his understandings" that it's down to two, one of which will eventually lead the Browns into the future.

The veteran defensive coach did interview for the head coach position, but the organization has opted to move on from Williams.

On Wednesday, it was announced that Freddie Kitchens, who was promoted from running backs coach to offensive coordinator during the 2018 season, would now have the franchise in his hands as the newest head coach of the Cleveland Browns. In the half-season with Kitchens calling the shots, Mayfield tossed 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions, while his quarterback ranking improved 30 points to an impressive 106.2.

Kitchens will get the chance.

While many fans were surprised that Williams was passed over given the Browns' resurgence to end the season, others viewed the Kitchens hiring as a smart move - as another National Football League team may have offered him a head coaching job had the Browns not promoted him.

There is also no good guess at who could serve as special teams coordinator under Kitchens either.

North Korea warns of 'new path' if USA 'continues to break promises'
In this year's 30-minute speech, Kim spent more than 20 minutes highlighting his new focus on the economy. Kim has warned Washington not to test North Koreans' patience with sanctions and pressure.

He revamped the offensive scheme, using multiple formations and tweaking the game plan to include calls that he knew his players were comfortable running.

This left me to question, who could Kitchens possibly be thinking about to hire as his coordinators in Cleveland?

Kitchens and Williams kept their players focused and motivated following the mid-season coaching change and the Browns went 7-8-1 following an 0-16 season in 2017 under Jackson.

"Definitely. No doubt", he said. He then stated it was because, "Coaching Baker Mayfield is not something that appeals to successful head coaches".

The barrel-chested Kitchens became a fan favorite in a city that loves underdogs. "I like it here a lot, and everybody around here knows that I like it here", Kitchens told Ohio.com.

Kitchens is the fourth coach hired by the Haslams since they bought the team in 2012.
